The Best Bars In Austin
With three full acres, a massive bar, and more activities than you can count, Armadillo Den in South Austin isn’t just a great bar—it’s one of the best places to spend an afternoon in Austin. Around the tables, expect to find the standard suite of bar games (giant Jenga, anyone?), but the main attraction is the ax throwing lane in the back that you can rent by the half-hour in the evenings. Thankfully, Downtown drink prices haven’t quite made their way this far south. And as an added bonus, you can get an additional 10% off your tab if you show the bartender you arrived via ride share (which you should probably do anyway).

Asian-Southern fusion restaurant The Peached Tortilla marking 10 years at Austin flagship
The Peached Tortilla first opened as a food truck in September 2010. Founder and owner Eric Silverstein had been practicing law and felt like taking a leap into owning a business.
“I tried to raise money for a restaurant, and that was proven to be pretty challenging. It was an uphill battle in the middle of like the Great Recession of 2008,” Silverstein said. “I ended up pivoting to a food truck because that was a really economical way to get a business going—a hard way to get a business going, but an economical way.”
The opening of The Peached Tortilla restaurant on Burnet Road in December 2014 allowed Silverstein to experiment more and offer more menu items inspired by meals he grew up with.
“Asian comfort food, to me, is kind of the food I grew up eating,” Silverstein said. “I wouldn't say it's represented heavily on the truck. I would say it's more represented in the restaurants. Items like our Mom's Toast, which is a version of shrimp toast, which is a traditional Chinese dish, or Southern Fun, which is a version of chow fun.”

Hopdoddy Burger Bar aims to nearly double its restaurant count within 5 years
In the wake of its first expansion several years ago, Austin-based Hopdoddy Burger Bar is gearing up for another big growth spurt — with the goal this time of doubling its restaurant count within five years.

The 14-year-old chain of burger joints is on a trajectory to have 45 new stores by 2030 — from just under 50 now — and plans to get there by opening between eight and 10 locations annually, CEO Jeff Chandler said. Debt and capital partner Evolution Credit is providing financing for the chain's expansion, he said.

The decision to add new locations is the result of climbing sales and customer traffic, Chandler said. He declined to provide financial details but said the net performance of the business has improved year-over-year for the past three years, even accounting for higher costs.

Daisy Lounge Review
Most of Austin's speakeasies are Downtown or on the East Side, but Daisy Lounge brings the booming world of secret bars to South Austin. It's hard to find unless you know to look for the daisy painted on the facade of the converted lobby that connects District Kitchen + Cocktails and Keepers, two Circle C Ranch restaurants. A green velvet curtain on the other side of the door establishes the color scheme running through this narrow two-story spot. Daisy basically looks like the cutest library in town, with cozy chairs and shelves of hardback books built into the walls. The cocktails are divided into classics and inventive mixtures like the Oaxacan Soda, which is an herby mezcal drink with lime juice and chili salt.
